Yes, I think it is good that border guard institutions are different across the EU. First of all, there are different laws and regulations in countries, so Border guard service must be organized respectively. Then, each contry has its features of relief, weather, mentality of people, budget, size and other means, that may influence service features.

Biggest differences is the different flows of people and illegal immigrants, adjacent country and its features, number of kilometres of land or sea border, geographical area of the country

I cannot say clearly whether it is good or bad that the border guarding institutions are diffirent in Europe. The main tasks and responsobilities of the EU border guard institutions are the same.

The biggest difference  between border guarding institutions across the EU  is the wich ministry or authority is responsible for border guard istitutions . Also the training system and mentality of officials are different.

Hello everyone! Agree with collegues that the main tasks and responsibilities of border guard institutions are guite similar like prevent illegal immigration, to carry out surveillance of border and so on, because we are part of EU. Differences between border guard institutions are how officials do their tasks because of country location, migration ways, its structure (borderguard , borderpolice etc.), belonging to the ministry.

I think that main tasks are the same across the EU because we have to work with Schengen Borders Code. Basically the main differences are those witch my colleges already mentioned like geographical location, weather, border length and internal regulations and of course technical resources witch mostly depends on country's budget.

Each EU country has its own traditions and history. Therefore, differences in the field of border guarding of their country are understandable. The biggest differences between border guarding institutions across the EU are different internal rules, laws as well as traditions and history.

For me this is quite hard question. Need to think firstly. For sure I guess that its not good that border guarding institutions are different across the EU. Because better would be for all countries to cooperate and work similar. Although, there may be problems too.

Unambiguously, all border guard institutions of the EU countries perform the same basic functions. Yes, legislation, agreements, internal rules are different. I agree that for greater efficiency it would be extremely convenient to have common rules, agreements and support.

From my opinion these differences what we have between EU border guard institutions are not good. Because all EU countries are like one big country and all EU external border should be secured in the same level. I think this was a reason why EU create FRONTEX and also why they continue developing of European Border and Coast guard agency. I dont think that we have big differences between other EU countries Borderguard and Police institutions. We have the same responsibilities and the same profile of the work. The flow of the illegal migrations are much lower , but duties are the same. Basic difference for Latvia and challange for Interior Minister is a low personel motivation.

I cant to answer directly to this question, because my thoughts are divided. From one side it is nice that we have differences, that we can see another country situation, make results and try to develop, but in another side this difference is absence, that we have no common acts on same situation. In some countries border guards are united with state police, in some countries state border guards is under supervision of The Minister of Defence.

In my opinion it’s not bad or good that’s border guarding institutions are different across the EU. Differences helps improve border guarding in EU, because of exchanging of experience and individual views new revelations emerge and that’s good for all member states.
Biggest differences between border guarding institutions across the EU is institution’s structure. Of course, there are economic, political, geographical reasons which impacts on institutions main differences in EU.
