Dear course participant,

The course you are going to participate in has been developed in the frames of the Grant Agreement No. 2019/301/TRU concluded between the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex)State Border Guard College of the Republic of Latvia and the State Border Guard Service under the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania

The course aims at improving Border Guard officers' communicative skills with the emphasis on extending the knowledge of  specific English vocabulary related to  Border Guard officers professional activities and participation in Frontex joint operations in particular, to facilitate efficient communication  with both Border Guard  officers from other EU member states and persons travelling to the Schengen area, thus enhancing Border Guard officers interoperability during joint activities.

Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to use English vocabulary related to:

-  professional presentation
-  BG organisation , tasks and equipment
-  1st and 2nd line interview
-  to refusing entry, imposing sanctions, return
-  to international protection procedures
-  fundamental rights
-  participation and communication with foreign border guards in Frontex joint operations.

The course is divided into two learning phases: independent learning phase and contact learning phase (three full training days in a BG training institution).

The independent learning phase is based on an e-learning approach when learners and teachers use  electronic technologies to access educational curriculum outside of a traditional classroom, with constant support provided on the side of teachers.

During the independent learning phase you are expected to revise general English vocabulary and grammar structures (optional), the English vocabulary related to their  professional presentation, BG institution structure, tasks and equipment,  1st and 2nd line border checks, as well as to learn new vocabulary related to participation in Frontex joint operations.

On completion of the independent learning phase you will have to do a progress test, which is a pass to the contact learning phase.

During the contact learning phase in a BG training institution you  will be able to reinforce the knowledge of the vocabulary acquired during the independent learning phase while accomplishing various kinds of communicative activities – giving presentations, role plays, case-studies, simulation both in classroom and in a BG simulated environment - border crossing point and border surveillance unit simulators.
